Hi everyone,
I trust you all had a good week!
Ok, so what's the deal with the narcissism subject you may wonder?
Well, I guess I'm in a very peculiar situation where I can address certain niggly topics and just call a spade a spade without naming names publicly for obvious reasons etc. Besides, dinkum narcissists tend to get quite narcissistic about these issues! (doh!)
I have recently spoken to no less than 3 IFA's in the last few months...all who have been working for a bonafide narcissist.
Perhaps you're not too sure what that exactly is in our industry, or whether you are perhaps working for one? Unfortunately we're all quite busy so I can't go into TOO much detail...but here's a few pointers to help identify.
- They Can’t Handle Criticism Or Being Questioned
- They Love Control, Manipulating And Lying
- Your Boss Only Talks About Himself Or Herself And Constantly Needs Admiration.
- Taking Credits From Others And Blaming Others For Mistakes
- They Don’t Allow Someone Else To Be The Center Of Attention
- All-In Or All-Out
- They Want to control the Narrative, and will try and Bury you with legal action if you Dare try leave and/or take your clients With You. Why?? Just because they CAN.
- They Don’t Listen To Others And There Is A Lack Of Connection With Others
....and I'm sure there are a few more signs.
So, what I believe about dealing with such a person??
YOU DON'T HAVE TO!!
Yes, you don't have to put up with it! Why do I say that? Well, it's quite simple. I have terms with some really great IFA companies all around the world, and if you're a half decent IFA and you do good business, I will very likely be able to find you a much better fit, possibly with as little disruption to your business or routine as possible.
As a rookie IFA back in 2009 I have worked for the odd crook or two and also a multi award winning UK PLC IFA company, so I have literally seen and experienced the good, bad and the ugly FIRST hand. It almost cost me my marriage TWICE back in the day.
So, DON'T compromise folks....DON'T settle, the light at the end of the tunnel does NOT necessarily have to be an oncoming train!
Let's make sure to always set realistic goals. "According to Wikipedia, a goal is a desired result or possible outcome that a person envisions, plans and commits to achieve" -- sounds pretty obvious right?
Look, I've been exactly where you are when it comes to international IFA career options during my own career as an IFA for about a decade in 4 countries. The stories I have heard, both good and bad, can make for some serious movie scripts!
I personally have worked in some of the most rural environments you can probably imagine, dodging everything from Malaria, Yellow fever, Ebola scares to Al Shabaab terrorists hiding out in Kampala, Uganda...and then I've also worked in some fantastic locations across SE Asia before settling my family in Panama a few years ago.
So, let us help you today. Be sure to visit our IFA Jobs web page today... the link is at the end of the this slide show.
